A Great Night at Blocktober Bout

Spectators were treated to an awesome spectacle of roller derby bouting at Blocktober Bout, as the Reef City Rollergirls went out with a bang for the final home bout of the season. The competition between the Cane Sugars and the Monsoon Maidens was fever pitched, trading blow after blow.

The first half saw the Cane Sugars grab an early lead over the Monsoon Maidens with some brilliant jamming from Beth Adder and PollyWanna Smasha. The Maidens regained some quick points with some power jamming from Megalingus to bring the scores within 4 points at the half time break.

The crowd was entertained at half time by local band “Born ‘n’ Breeding”. Several lucky fans also went home with prizes for the best poster, best dressed as well as the Rollergirl Bowling competition.

The second half kicked off and saw the scores keeping level early on. With penalties starting to tally up, several Monsoon Maidens were sent to the bin in quick succession giving the Cane Sugars a scoring advantage and the lead which they never relinquished. In one of the closest home bouts of the season the Cane Sugars defeated the Monsoon Maidens 135 to 92.

Players making their debut appearance included Manslaughda and Lil’ Smoochy for the Cane Sugars.

In honour of Devilish Diva leaving us for her new job in WA, the first “Diva Award”, selected by the referees and NSO’s for Most Improved Performance was awarded to Smiling Chaos of the Cane Sugars.

Most valuable player for the Cane Sugars went to Beth Adder and for the Monsoon Maidens to Pablo Kickasso.

A big thankyou to Toxic Funk for her MC work getting the crowd revved up and entertained throughout the night.

A sad farewell to Power Ranga who played her last game for the Monsoon Maidens and returns to Townsville.

A big thankyou to our game night sponsors, Roland Graf’s Auto Centre and Visual Obsession. Also to the various businesses and individuals who donated prizes, time or in-kind support to make Blocktober Bout a success.
